Log Cabin | Surrey
Project Background
The owner of this beautifully constructed log cabin in Surrey wanted to replace an ageing collection of plug-in electric heaters with a more efficient, reliable and aesthetically pleasing heating solution. While the existing heaters provided basic warmth, they consumed a high level of electricity, generated excessive running costs and struggled to maintain a comfortable temperature within the timber building. Like many convection-based heaters, they warmed the surrounding air rather than the building itself, meaning heat was lost quickly whenever doors were opened or natural ventilation occurred.
The portable heaters also created several practical issues. Trailing power cables and floor-standing units contributed to unnecessary clutter, reduced usable space and detracted from the clean interior of the cabin. Their noisy operation, short lifespan and frequent need for replacement made them an unsuitable long-term heating solution.
Infrared Group designed and installed a bespoke infrared heating system tailored specifically to the property's layout and heating requirements. The installation comprised five ceiling-mounted infrared heating panels, an LED back-lit infrared mirror in the bathroom, an outdoor infrared bar heater and a fully integrated SALUS Smart Control System, providing intelligent room-by-room heating management via individual thermostats and mobile app control.
Unlike conventional heaters, infrared technology warms the timber structure, furniture and occupants directly, allowing the fabric of the building to absorb and gradually release heat over time. This creates a more consistent and comfortable indoor environment while requiring significantly less installed wattage than the previous heating system. The result is a quieter, smarter and far more energy-efficient heating solution, perfectly suited to the unique characteristics of a modern timber log cabin.

Replace the inefficient plug-in electric heaters with a permanent infrared heating system that delivers lower running costs, improved comfort and significantly greater energy efficiency.
Create a cleaner, more contemporary interior by removing bulky portable heaters, trailing power cables and unnecessary floor clutter while maximising usable living space.
Provide intelligent room-by-room heating control through the SALUS Smart Control System, allowing each area of the log cabin to be independently zoned and controlled via a mobile app.
Deliver a heating solution specifically suited to timber construction, enabling the fabric of the log cabin to absorb and gradually release warmth for improved heat retention and lasting comfort.
Install a reliable, low-maintenance heating system with a 10-year warranty and an expected lifespan of over 40 years, eliminating the need for frequent heater replacements.

Complete infrared heating system comprising 1 × 1100W, 2 × 700W and 1 × 300W Classic Infrared Panels, all ceiling mounted to deliver efficient, even radiant heating throughout the log cabin.
580W LED back-lit infrared mirror installed in the bathroom, combining an elegant illuminated mirror with an energy-efficient heating solution that helps prevent condensation.
2.4kW outdoor infrared bar heater mounted at high level to provide instant, comfortable warmth for the external seating area, extending the property's usable outdoor space throughout the year.

Discover Phase
Conducted a detailed site survey to assess the log cabin's layout, insulation levels and existing heating system, identifying opportunities to improve comfort and reduce energy consumption.
Evaluated the performance of the existing plug-in electric heaters, highlighting their high running costs, limited efficiency, poor aesthetics and lack of intelligent heating control.
Worked closely with the homeowner to understand occupancy patterns and heating preferences, ensuring the new system would deliver maximum comfort with minimal energy waste.
Design & Development Phase
Designed a bespoke infrared heating system using ceiling-mounted panels, an LED back-lit infrared mirror and an outdoor infrared bar heater to provide complete indoor and outdoor heating coverage.
Calculated the appropriate wattage for each room, ensuring every area received the correct heat output while significantly reducing the overall installed electrical load.
Integrated a fully zoned SALUS Smart Control System, enabling independent room-by-room temperature control, programmable schedules and convenient mobile app management.
Implementation Phase
Completed the entire installation in approximately 4–5 hours, with all heating products professionally installed and fully commissioned within a single day.
Securely mounted the infrared panels directly to the timber construction, demonstrating the suitability of infrared heating for log cabins and timber-framed buildings.
Configured and tested the SALUS Smart Control System, commissioning each heating zone and providing the homeowner with a fully operational, energy-efficient heating solution ready for immediate use.

Results
