Project Background

The Vistry Innovation Centre (VIC) in Bardon, Leicestershire, is one of the UK's most advanced demonstration facilities for sustainable housebuilding. Located within the Vistry Works timber frame factory, the 356,000 sq ft centre showcases a full-sized concept home featuring more than 100 innovative technologies from 54 leading suppliers, all designed to support the future of low-carbon, energy-efficient housing.

As part of Vistry's commitment to achieving net-zero ambitions and improving the performance of new-build homes, Infrared Group was selected to provide an innovative electric heating solution that aligned with the centre's fabric-first design philosophy. The objective was to demonstrate how modern infrared heating can deliver exceptional comfort while reducing energy consumption, simplifying installation and complementing contemporary interior design.

The system incorporated discreet ceiling-mounted infrared heating panels, an infrared heated bathroom mirror and a bespoke printed infrared panel in the lounge, creating a heating solution that blends seamlessly into the home without compromising aesthetics. Controlled by the SALUS Smart Control System, the installation provides intelligent room-by-room heating management with fast warm-up times and responsive temperature control.

By showcasing infrared heating alongside other cutting-edge technologies, the Vistry Innovation Centre demonstrates how modern electric heating can play a key role in delivering efficient, low-maintenance, future-ready homes that support the UK's transition towards net-zero housing.
